Project of the Month: April 2021 - Colourful Cushion Cover
This month's project takes advantage of our Noro Sale to add a splash of cozy fun and colour to your home
The Colourful Cushion Cover is a free pattern on Ravelry. The sample shown used three balls of Noro Taiyo in colourway, and a pack of dollar buttons. It was knit on a 4.5mm / 80cm circular needle.
The original pattern uses a solid yarn for the back of the cushion, and uses a zipper closure.
We don't carry zippers at Romni Wools, so we added a button flap closure.
Button flap pattern modification
After finishing the top edge of the cushion cover as written in the pattern, do not break the yarn.
Work three rows in reverse stockinette stitch: (wrong side facing, knit 1 row, purl 1 row, knit 1 row.)
Knit four rows (two ridges) in garter stitch.
Create buttonholes (works well to line them up with the edges of the original three mitred squares) by working K2tog, YOx2, SSK. On the following row, K1P1 into the double yarn-over.
Knit four more rows (two more ridges) in garter stitch. Cast off using stretchy cast off method.
Fold the button band to the inside. When picking up stitches at the button band, pick up through both layers of knitting.
Continue with the mitred square for the back of the cushion as per the pattern.
When the back is complete, seam the edge, working both layers of the button band together.
Sew buttons to match the buttonholes, add a pillow form, and enjoy your cozy pillow!
